The world's largest fiber optic cable, 2Africa, has arrived in Amanzimtoti, South Africa. The 45,000 km cable will connect 33 nations worldwide, including 19 in Africa and is set to begin operation in May 2022. The cable is being laid by a global business consortium of Facebook, MTN, Vodafone, China Mobile International, and Telecom Egypt. The South African landing of the cable was chosen in Amanzimtoti and will travel 5 km underground to a station near Arbour Road.
