The number of active investors in African tech startups increased by 28 per cent to almost 1,000 in 2022, yet this was a slower rate of growth than witnessed in previous years.
According to the annual African Tech Startups Funding Report released by Disrupt Africa, the number of active investors in African tech startups increased by 28% to almost 1,000 in 2022, which is the largest number of individual disclosed investors in any year on record. However, the growth rate is slower than in previous years. The report indicates that 633 startups raised a combined US$3,333,071,000 in 2022, which is a significant increase in both the number of funded startups and the total secured funding compared to the previous year. The most active investors are early-stage funds, followed by accelerators and later-stage VC firms.
