Amazon has launched the first AWS Skills Centre based outside of the US, in South Africa, to deliver free training for learners in the region. Organizations identify skills gaps (60% of respondents) and an inability to attract talent (53%) as the key barriers preventing industry transformation, according to 2023 World Economic Forum “Future of Jobs” report.

Amazon has launched its first AWS Skills Centre outside of the United States, specifically in Cape Town, South Africa. The centre aims to address the skills gap in the region, offering free training and education for individuals regardless of their background. It seeks to create a diverse pipeline of entry-level cloud talent and contribute to fulfilling Amazon's goal of providing free digital skills training to 29 million people globally by 2025. The initiative aims to meet the growing demand for skilled cloud talent in the wake of technological advancements and industry transformation. The centre is part of Amazon Web Services' efforts to support workforce development and innovation in South Africa and around the world.
