AWS selects 25 startups for its inaugural ‘fintech in Africa’ accelerator
AWS (Amazon Web Services) has selected 25 African fintech startups for its inaugural AWS FinTech Africa Accelerator cohort. The chosen startups come from various countries, with Nigeria dominating the cohort with eleven representatives. Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, Cameroon, and Egypt are also represented. Although all the selected startups are fintech companies, they cover diverse areas such as finance and lending for MSMEs, cryptocurrency transactions, global remittance products, freelancer payment, and export/import management. While Amazon will not take equity or offer venture debt, participating startups will receive around $25,000 worth of AWS services, as well as credits for other platforms. The accelerator program reaffirms Amazon's interest in Africa's digital ecosystem and supports the continent's growing fintech sector.
