BuuPass raises $1.3M to scale mobility sector digitization in Africa
BuuPass is a Kenyan booking platform that aims to digitize the traditional public transport sector in the country and beyond. The company provides operators with a bus management system (BMS) that helps manage their operations, inventory and sales, and connects them to its marketplace, where passengers can search, compare, and book their tickets through various channels. The BMS includes a point-of-sale solution and a parcel management module. The company processes around 12,000 transactions per day and has recorded over 9 million ticket sales, with a Gross Merchandise Value of $30 million in 2022. The platform supports a fleet of 1,200 vehicles from 25 bus companies, and also provides flight and train ticket booking. In 2017, BuuPass partnered with Safaricom to facilitate train bookings and has raised $1.3 million in pre-seed funding to scale its operations in Kenya and Uganda and become a pan-African infrastructure for long-distance transportation.
