“Equal gender representation should be the norm,” Mayokun Fadeyibi, SVP at Autochek West Africa, says
Mayokun Fadeyibi is a Nigerian woman who has broken barriers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields by building a successful career. She graduated with first-class honours in mathematics in 2005 and obtained a master's degree in applied mathematics, followed by a doctorate in business analytics in 2013. After working in the US, she returned to Nigeria in 2015 and became a senior executive at OLX and Cars45. In 2020, Fadeyibi co-founded Autochek, an automotive technology company that makes car ownership more affordable and accessible in Africa. She currently oversees the company’s West African operations, covering Nigeria, Ghana, and Cote d'Ivoire. Fadeyibi believes that the girl child should be given the opportunity to education, including STEM-related programs at an early stage to address gender bias. To achieve equal gender representation in the workplace, the tech industry should make conscious efforts towards gender diversity in hiring. Autochek has raised $16.5m since its launch in October 2020 and has consistently leveraged mergers and acquisitions (M&As) as a part of its growth strategy. Fadeyibi has been part of all the special project teams set up to review potential M&As, playing an active role in executing the deals.
