🌍 Kofa's Expansion into Africa
Ghanaian clean-tech startup Kofa, known for its innovative battery network solutions, is set to expand its battery swapping system to Kenya and Togo. Currently rolling out its e-motorcycle in Ghana, Kofa is committed to creating an affordable, customer-driven electricity network powered by portable batteries and renewable energy.

🔋 Innovative Battery Solutions
Kofa has developed the Kore2, a high-capacity battery system, along with a comprehensive battery swapping network. CEO Erik Nygard highlights that Kofa's batteries are at least 30% more cost-effective than petrol, providing versatile and high-performance power.

🚴‍♂️ E-Motorcycles and Partnerships
In collaboration with TAIL-G, a renowned e-motorcycle manufacturer, Kofa designed the Jidi e-motorcycle equipped with Kore2 batteries, offering a range of over 100km. Additionally, Kofa has partnered with Nigeria’s MAX to provide financing for over 2,000 Jidi bikes.

📈 Strategic Growth and Market Impact
Since its inception in 2021, Kofa has deployed 10 charging stations, 500 Kore2 batteries, and 150 Jidi bikes in Accra. With 7,000 more bikes in the pipeline, Kofa plans to operate in four cities and expand to Kenya and Togo. The startup has received seed funding from Shell Foundation and support from the UK’s FCDO, Wangara Green Ventures, and Mercy Corps Ventures.

🏍️ Focus on Infrastructure and Sustainability
Kofa's primary competition is petrol. By focusing on creating efficient batteries and robust charging networks, Kofa aims to solve the high costs and pollution associated with petrol systems. Their goal is to enable a seamless transition to clean energy for small businesses and delivery drivers across West Africa.

Kofa’s expansion signifies a pivotal move towards sustainable energy solutions, with a focus on creating the necessary infrastructure for electric vehicles in Africa.
