Inside Nollywood's first game app—Aki and Pawpaw Epic Run
Play Network Studio, a leading Nigerian movie producer, has developed Aki and Pawpaw Epic Run, the first Nollywood-themed mobile video game, in collaboration with Blueportal Software. The game, named after the popular 2002 movie Aki Na Ukwa comedy about two mischievous brothers, stars veteran Nigerian actors Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme. The video game is an endless runner game similar to Subway Surfers, and is set in locations across Nigeria, including the East, Lasgidi (Lagos), and Sambisa (Borno). The game has been launched amid a rise in mobile gaming in sub-Saharan Africa, which has seen the number of gamers rise to 186 million people from 77 million in 2015. The sector is projected to reach over 310 million users by 2027, with annual revenue reaching $2.27 billion.
