Spotify has announced the launch of Afrobeats: Journey of a Billion Streams, a dedicated site that will track all things related to the genre. From its origins in Ghana, its popularisation in Nigeria, its fusion with other genres as well as how it has become one of the continent’s biggest cultural exports.

Spotify has launched a dedicated site called "Afrobeats: Journey of a Billion Streams" to track and showcase the rise and cultural impact of the Afrobeats genre. Afrobeats, one of Africa's major musical exports, has experienced a 550% growth on Spotify since 2017 and garnered over 13 billion streams in 2022. The site will serve as a repository for Afrobeats-related content, including Spotify streaming data, results from a commissioned survey on Afrobeats, text, infographics, and visual elements. It will be regularly updated for the next eight weeks and will remain an ongoing resource. The site will have sections focusing on the origins, evolution, fusion, cultural exportation, and women of Afrobeats. It will also feature timelines, Spotify data, interviews with industry experts, and videos from Sub Saharan African markets. Spotify aims to provide both new and existing fans with a deeper understanding of the genre's history and global impact.
