Algeria and some East African nations are following similar initiatives.

Kenya Power, the country's sole electricity supplier, plans to convert 2,000 of its gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles to electric power over the next four years, as part of a growing trend in the East African economy to use renewable energy sources and to convert vehicles from fossil fuels to electricity. Kenya joins Algeria, which recently announced plans to ban diesel-powered cars, as African countries that are adopting eco-friendly initiatives. Electric mobility in Kenya is becoming more popular as battery charging infrastructure is set up by electric mobility businesses, with one e-mobility start-up, Ampersand, having launched operations in the country in May 2022.
