Meet the inaugural cohort of Google for Startups Accelerator for African female-led startups
In honor of International Women's Day, Google has launched the Google for Startups Accelerator for women founders in Africa. The program aims to support African female-led startups through funding, mentorship, and networking opportunities. The inaugural cohort includes 15 startups from eight African countries, and the program builds on Google's commitment to invest $1 billion in Africa to support initiatives such as improved connectivity and investment in startups. Google's initiatives seek to address the persistent gender gap in digital access that keeps women from unlocking technology's full potential. Despite women founding 40% of businesses in Africa, female-founded businesses receive just about 1% of the funding. The Google for Startups Accelerator and other initiatives aim to help women entrepreneurs overcome the challenges they face.
