POWERING AFRICA’S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH SDG 7

Across Africa, some 592 million people do not have access to electricity. This severe shortfall holds back the continent’s development, as well as having a detrimental impact on the health, well being and livelihoods of those left in the dark. Provision of clean and affordable power is encapsulated in one of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an ambitious set of targets that address the world’s most pressing issues, including poverty, inequality and climate change. A transition to green energy that enables universal access to electricity will be the spark that lights the journey to the achievement of the goals by 2030.
