Safaricom, Craft Silicon tap into the buy-now-pay-later trend 🇰🇪
Two new Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) products have been launched in Kenya. Safaricom and financial services firm EDOMx partnered to offer "Faraja," while Craft Silicon launched "SpotIt." Both products allow shoppers to make credit-based purchases and repay their loans in installments. Faraja offers interest-free credit for purchases up to KES 100,000 ($703) with a 30-day repayment period, limited to Kenya. SpotIt provides credit limits based on the customer's credit score and allows repayments over six to twelve months, with interest rates comparable to traditional banks. SpotIt is integrated into existing banking apps as a mini app, while Faraja is available through Safaricom's platforms. The BNPL market in Kenya is driven by increasing digital payment adoption and the rise of e-commerce, attracting young consumers seeking flexible payment options.
