Sasol, a South African chemicals and energy company, has established Sasol Ventures to invest in start-up and early-stage technologies that will help it decarbonize and achieve its 2050 net-zero goals. The company will invest €50 million over the next five years in the fund, making it the largest venture capital fund for the chemicals and industry sector in South Africa. Sasol has partnered with Emerald Technology Ventures, a global venture capital firm, to source and evaluate opportunities for the fund. The move is part of a growing trend of greentech investment in South Africa, with private investment firm Grovest recently launching a solar investment fund that offers tax benefits to investors.
