Jumia, Africa’s first financial startup and now e-commerce behemoth, and UPS, the world’s largest shipping and receiving firm, have announced a new agreement that will allow UPS to utilise Jumia’s ‘last mile logistics’ capabilities and infrastructure to expand its delivery services in Africa.

UPS will provide its clients an expanded choice of delivery solutions, including door-to-door package delivery and collection, with a variety of payment options, by leveraging the Jumia infrastructure in Africa.

“We are ecstatic and honored to have the opportunity to work with UPS, a worldwide logistics leader, to provide last-mile solutions in Africa. “We see this as a validation of the strength of our logistics platform, as well as a motivation to further up our efforts to improve our services and establish a world-class logistics business in Africa,” said Apoorva Kumar, Jumia’s SVP Logistics.

UPS will be able to use the enormous network of Jumia drop-off and pick-up stations to increase its reach and coverage throughout additional African towns and cities as a result of this agreement.

The collaboration will start with Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria, with ambitions to expand to Egypt, Ghana, and the Ivory Coast, and then to the rest of Africa where Jumia operates.
