WeWork South Africa has made it clear that it is not affiliated with WeWork Global, and the impending Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by WeWork Global in the US will not affect WeWork South Africa. WeWork South Africa entered into a franchise partnership with SiSebenza, granting them exclusive rights to operate WeWork locations in South Africa, as well as expansion rights in Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, and Nigeria. Despite the initial reference to a partnership, WeWork South Africa asserts that it is an entirely separate entity with 100% ownership by SiSebenza, and it has no ties to WeWork Global. This ensures that WeWork South Africa's local operations will remain unaffected by WeWork Global's recent actions. WeWork South Africa opened its first location in 2019 and is distancing itself from the troubles faced by WeWork Global, a pattern also observed in other WeWork franchisees, such as WeWork India.
