Microsoft has appointed Lillian Barnard as the new leader of its African operations as part of its plans to accelerate digital transformation on the continent. Prior to this, Barnard was the managing director of Microsoft in South Africa. In her new role, she will be replaced by Kalane Rampai. Microsoft has invested heavily in skilling and capacity-building in Africa in the past, and it is the first hyperscale cloud provider to launch an enterprise-grade data centre region on the continent. Microsoft, its partners, and cloud-using customers are estimated to generate around $45.4 billion in new revenues through cloud services by 2026, creating over 170,000 direct and indirect jobs.
