WhatsApp and NBA Star Giannis Team Up to Provide Mother-Tongue E-Books for Nigerian Kids 📖🇳🇬
Giannis, who grew up in Greece, draws inspiration from his mother singing him Igbo lullabies to stay connected to his Nigerian heritage. As WhatsApp's first global ambassador, he aims to preserve local languages in Nigeria and empower families to share their culture through NABU's eBooks.
In celebration of International Literacy Day, NABU launched a series of custom eBooks in Igbo and English, featuring 20 books, which are available on the NABU free app. The digital publisher worked with 50 local illustrators and 20 skilled creatives for this project. In the coming months, NABU plans to release books in other Nigerian languages like Hausa and Yoruba.
This impactful partnership not only provides free storybooks for children but also serves as a cultural bridge to the Nigerian diaspora. It's a significant step toward improving education and preserving local languages in Nigeria, empowering children to learn and connect with their heritage.
