Why Whatsapp chatbots are rising in popularity in southern Africa
In South Africa, WhatsApp has become the most popular social media platform, with 96% of internet users in the country using it. This popularity has led some developers in the region to create WhatsApp chatbots instead of mobile apps, as they are able to reach more people. TechCabal spoke to developers of four of these chatbots to find out more about their decision to build them, the traction they have garnered, their uses cases and much more. Among the chatbots mentioned are Fivvo Pay, which automates the sales process for township businesses; Meeticks Africa, a suite of three products that connects consumers to vendors and suppliers, provides education and offers Google Forms-like functionality; and Digify Africa, a WhatsApp learning bot that equips teachers, parents and learners with digital skills.
