World Mobile eyes African rollout after decentralized wireless field tests
Decentralized wireless (DeWi) network operator World Mobile has completed field tests of its DeWi technology in Kenya, Mozambique, and Nigeria, bringing it closer to a full rollout across Africa. The tests in Kenya and Mozambique utilized TV white space equipment, utilizing unused spectrum in the TV broadcast band to provide mobile network services. In Nigeria, the field test utilized SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet system. World Mobile aims to provide affordable and reliable internet access to underserved rural areas, and the tests validate the feasibility and scalability of their DeWi technology. The company recently launched its commercial network in Zanzibar and plans to extend its network to more countries in Africa and beyond, aiming to create a global community-owned wireless network to bridge the digital divide. World Mobile's DeWi solution offers connectivity at a lower cost than traditional mobile network operators and is built on blockchain, aiming to give people access to the global telecom market.
