Many new companies focusing on agriculture and technology, called agritech startups, have started in Africa. These startups use things like blockchain, drones, sensors in the soil, artificial intelligence, and computer vision to help farmers grow more crops, improve how they sell them, and take care of the environment. They also create digital systems to help farmers find markets to sell their crops, get what they need to farm, like seeds and tools, get insurance, loans, and learn more about farming. New technology like drones, artificial intelligence, and seawater agriculture are being used to predict good times for planting crops. And there's hope that in the nearest future, farming will change a lot. From AI Intelligence that predict the weather to farmers using technology to fight pests and grow more crops and self-driving vehicles on farms, technology is making farming more advanced.

In the future, farming will use fancy technology like robots, sensors for temperature and moisture, aerial pictures, and GPS. These high-tech tools, along with precision farming and robot systems, will help farms make more money, work better, be safer, and be kinder to the environment.

Agrotech is the combination of agriculture and technology. It is the use of technological tools to improve and ease agricultural processes, leading to better crop and animal yield.

In conventional agriculture, we see a certain level of productivity and yield that is affected by so many factors, but with agrotech, there is improved quality and yield.


Applications include:

•  Farm automation involves using technology to make farming more efficient. Technology performs tasks such as planting, harvesting and crop monitoring. Technology used include robots, drones, and sensors.


• Precision agriculture allows farmers to maximize yields by controlling every variable of crop farming. Technology such as GPS sensors and data analytics are used.


What is Biotech?

Biotech, short for biotechnology is the use of living organisms to make or improve a product. It may involve the manipulation of DNA or other relatively new technology.

Agricultural biotechnology is the collection of various technology that helps us to improve crop or animal yield and quality.


Various technology that can be applied in agricultural biotechnology include:

• Genetic engineering/recombinant DNA technology which involves manipulation of genes by introducing, eliminating, or rearranging specific genes in the organism.

• Tissue culture is the method of growing fragments of plants or animal tissues on specially formulated nutrient media.

• Molecular breeding uses genomic tools in breeding plants and animals.


The future of Agriculture.

Biotechnology through scientific techniques modify and improve plants, animals and microorganisms. It develops crops through improved nutritional quality, resistance to pests and diseases, resistance to drought.

Using the recombinant DNA technology, DNA sequences are manipulated by inserting, removing or modifying in order to introduce a new trait or change a characteristic of an animal.

Agrotech is a blessing to the field of agriculture: it can also be referred to as Smart farming. It reduces work hours and improves productivity. Many years before the development of advanced agricultural technology, farmers had to work up to six out of seven days a week in the rain and sun to ensure that the harvest was good. If they couldn't carry out the tasks themselves, they had to employ and pay more workers.


Modern agricultural technology has enabled us to address the global demand for food effectively. Through the utilization of cutting-edge machinery, artificial intelligence (AI) robots, and software solutions, we can minimize wastage and expenses in food production. Below are the key ways in which technology has significantly enhanced the agricultural system.
