“Caps lock look like you are shouting,” those were the words our coach Onyeka Ekwemozor said to us in our class. 😅
It sounded funny when she said it, but now that I think about it, it makes sense.
I mean, WHY SHOULD I EVEN WANT WRITE LIKE THIS?😆
I registered for the Creaitz and Wazoplus #contentwritingprogram earlier this year, not knowing how much it would impact me.
As a beginner writer with no idea of content writing, this class has helped shape my understanding and kickstart my content writing experience.
The classes have been highly interactive, we must talk o,😅 and the assignments and feedbacks have been really impressive.
We have had five classes so far, and I will be talking about one of my favorites Copywriting.
Copywriting is writing compelling content to persuade your reader to take a particular action.
This type of writing, works on invoking the emotions of the reader.
How do we even write to invoke emotions?
Well, the best way is storytelling.
Storytelling helps to draw in your reader because like it or not, human beings no matter what age love a good story.
You can either, write from a first-person point of view making yourself relatable to your reader.
Or from a third-person point of view by making the reader, the main character in your story.
An example of using the first person POV, is:
I remember how hard it was to lose weight.
That right there, has grabbed their attention. Because they want to lose weight too and immediately relate to you.
An example of using the third person POV, is:
You are going to lose weight easily if you eat these foods.
This immediately perks up the reader because, it feels like you are talking directly to them.
To tell a good story you must talk about a relatable problem, this should be your point of reference in your story.
In your story you want to pose the problem the reader is facing, and propose a solution.
Not just any solution, a solution they can get from reading your content.
Now, you have been successful in making the reader read your content.
What next?
Next, is your CTA (call to action.)
Your CTA is the action you have been wanting the reader to take.
Remember, the main purpose of copywriting is to make the reader take an action.
The CTA must be at the end of your content, and it must be one action.
Humans don’t like stress. The action they take, must be as stress free as possible.
Example:
Send a dm to our Instagram page *insert link*
This way, it is stress free and with the emotions invoked by reading your copy, they can take the action as quickly as possible.
There are other ways to grab the attention of your reader apart from storytelling.
And they are:
1. Using numbers.
Example:
3 easy ways to lose weight in 6 months.
Numbers have a way of calming the human mind, making it seem like, there is not so much work to do.
2. Using hooks.
Hooks are attention grabbing statements which pull in your readers.
You can start with a controversial statement or quote.
Example:
Experts say drinking ginger juice on an empty stomach every morning, can make you loose weight. How true?
Bam! You have gotten their attention. Because, they might have never heard of this, and what to read what the so-called experts, have to say.
This formula invokes the readers’ curiosity in wanting to read more of your content.
I learnt all these and more, from the #contentwritingprogram hosted by #creaitzxwazoplus, also Creaitz and Wazoplus on LinkedIn.
I am so grateful to have been part of this, it has really helped me kickstart my writing career and knowledge in content writing.
