The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has disclosed that it will integrate its database with the National Identification Authority (NIA) by Q1 2023. Lagos is considering adopting Nigeria's Startup Bill.🚀🚀
During the Co-Create 2022 Tech Expo in Lagos, Tunbosun Alake, the Special Adviser on Innovation and Technology to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu, stated that they will domesticate Nigeria's Startup Bill (NSB) to enable the startup ecosystem in the country, and that for state actors to be able to implement some of the provisions of the law, they must domesticate. For indigenous founders, the NBS will provide protection and incentives, such as tax breaks and access to an exclusive list of private and public-led funding opportunities, as well as create conditions that will attract local and international investors to Nigeria's startup community.

During the IMF African Department Speakers Series last Friday, Kingsley Obiora, the CBN's Deputy Governor, revealed the CBN's plan to introduce the Unstructured Supplementary (USSD) code as part of steps to improve the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). "A lot of people may not have smartphones, but that is essentially the next step in our CBDC improvement, to introduce the USSD code, so those who do not have smartphones can still transact," Obiora explained.

CoLab, Talent City, and the Kaduna State Government collaborated to create the Kaduna Technology City. Its goal is to provide a welcoming atmosphere for tech innovators and entrepreneurs. The Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, commissioned the CoLab Innovation Campus on May 27, 2022, which is the first tech space within the Kaduna Technology City in Barnawa, Kaduna. Sanusi's belief that "Kaduna is ideal for a startup/technology hub" hasn't changed in the six years since he founded CoLab. 💥💥

In Kaduna, Nigeria, Zipline's drone delivery service makes its debut.💥🇳🇬
Zipline, a robotics and drone company based in the United States, has opened its first distribution center in Nigeria, in Kaduna State. Zipline will employ drones to deliver vaccines, blood products, and other life-saving pharmaceuticals on demand. Apart from the first center, the company plans to open two more centers in Kaduna state, each capable of microtargeting the delivery of over six tons of medical items over 46,000 square kilometers per week.

LSETF is fostering a startup-friendly environment in Lagos.
Startups, MSMEs, and businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa are still attempting to make up ground lost due to the pandemic. The economic recovery in the second half of 2021 was positive, prompting a significant increase in 2021 growth estimates from 3.7 to 4.5 percent. The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) wants to cement Lagos' position as Africa's leading startup destination.
