š Future Africa's Founders Launch $750K-Backed Accelerate Africa, Aiming to Be the YC of the Continent šš”
In a bid to fill the void left by the retreating Y Combinator from Africa, Iyin Aboyeji and Mia von Koschitzky-Kimani are launching Accelerate Africa, backed by a substantial $750,000 USAID grant. Dubbed the "YC of Africa," the accelerator aims to support ten startups in a comprehensive eight-week program, focusing on storytelling, team-building, business development, and product refinement. Unlike Y Combinator, Accelerate Africa will take a hands-on approach, working with startups in person across two cities, Nairobi and Lagos. Success will be measured by the startups' ability to secure follow-on funding during and after the program. Notably, participation does not guarantee funding from the accelerator itself, ensuring a clear distinction from Y Combinator's model. The accelerator, while facilitated by some Future Africa staff, operates independently, maintaining transparency and avoiding potential conflicts of interest. ššš°
