A Ponzi scheme targets desperate workers amid Zimbabwe’s employment crisis 🇿🇼
E-Creator, a platform that promised payment for writing fake reviews on e-commerce websites, targeted desperate workers in Zimbabwe amid the country's high unemployment rate. The company's director, Zhao Jiaotong, scammed thousands of people, luring them into investing money with promises of quick returns. The scheme operated by having users write positive reviews on specific products, and they were required to invest money upfront. However, in June, the platform suddenly froze accounts, and local reports revealed that Jiaotong had disappeared with over $1 million. Many unemployed individuals were attracted to the opportunity, hoping to make money while searching for formal employment. The lack of job opportunities and financial struggles in the country made people vulnerable to such schemes. Experts call for better regulation in Zimbabwe's e-commerce sector to prevent similar scams in the future.
