Copia fires 350 employees in third round of layoffs
Kenyan e-commerce platform Copia has laid off 25% of its workforce, amounting to 350 employees, in its third round of layoffs this year. The company cited the need to reduce labor costs and improve profitability as the reasons for the layoffs. Copia raised $50 million in a Series C funding round in January 2022 and claims to be in a good financial position. However, it is streamlining its operations and optimizing processes to provide better services while facing economic challenges. The affected employees will receive a severance package and other benefits, and the layoffs will be carried out in compliance with Kenyan labor laws. Despite the layoffs, Copia's regular operations will continue as the company focuses on becoming a more efficient and sustainable business.
