Kenyan electricity bus manufacturer BasiGo expands to Rwanda 🚌 🇷🇼
Kenyan electric bus manufacturer BasiGo is expanding its operations to Rwanda and plans to enter the market in the fourth quarter of this year. The startup will deliver its first unit to Rwandan public transportation providers using its innovative Pay-As-You-Drive finance model. Rwanda will become BasiGo's second market after Kenya. The company has also signed a cooperation agreement with AC Mobility, Rwanda's largest producer of automated fare collection systems for public transportation. The move to electric buses is expected to help bus operators save on rising fuel prices and significantly reduce air pollution and CO2 emissions. BasiGo aims to provide a cost-effective electric alternative to fuel for public transit bus operators. The Rwandan government has a goal to convert 20% of the bus fleet in Kigali to electric by 2030 and has entered agreements to acquire around 200 electric buses.
