Mozilla is aiding Kenya’s upcoming tech startups with grants and acceleration
Mozilla Corporation, in collaboration with the Nairobi City County Government, organized the Mozilla Africa Mradi Innovation Challenge in Nairobi to support Kenyan tech entrepreneurs. The challenge selected three tech startups and three student innovators who received grants totaling KES 13 million ($92,500) and will receive technical assistance to further develop their products and enter the market. The initiative aims to provide resources, grants, and market access to African innovators, fostering a more inclusive digital future. Mozilla has previously invested $20 million in fellowships and awards to support local innovations. With 308 active tech startups in Kenya employing over 11,000 people, the challenge seeks to boost the tech ecosystem by assisting innovators in growing their businesses. The Digital Economy Blueprint suggests that digital skills will be crucial for 55% of job roles in Kenya by 2030.
