Alerzo, a Nigerian B2B e-commerce platform that digitizes commerce and payments processes between FMCG suppliers and informal retailers, has laid off 15% of its full-time workforce, the company confirmed to TechCrunch.
Nigerian B2B e-commerce platform Alerzo has laid off 15% of its full-time workforce in its second round of job cuts in seven months, as it seeks to boost profitability. The company said its first layoff last September was due to performance reasons, but the latest round was prompted by the expansion of the firm, which led to it being overstaffed, as well as the impact of the broader economy. Alerzo, which serves more than 100,000 retailers, said it was breakeven in Q3 2021, before it hired aggressively and expanded its presence in Nigeria.
