Remote working responsible for surge in cybersecurity threats in Africa, according to report 👨🏽💻🔒
A survey conducted in South Africa, Zambia, and Kenya has revealed that 62% of companies attribute the surge in cybersecurity threats to remote working. The report by Liquid C2 Cyber Security indicates that remote or hybrid work arrangements have made it more challenging for companies to mitigate the proliferation of threats on users' devices. The most common method of attack reported by the surveyed companies was through email, specifically using phishing or spam attacks. Compromised passwords, data breaches, and attacks were also prevalent. One of the primary concerns cited by decision-makers was unauthorized use of devices or company resources, along with the risk of malicious code from harmful websites and lost or stolen devices. The report highlights that the continent lacks a sufficient cybersecurity skill pool to address the escalating threats, estimating only 7,000 certified professionals in this field across Africa. South Africa and Kenya were identified as the countries with the highest number of cybersecurity threats in INTERPOL's 2022 Africa Cyberthreat Assessment report.
