The Ugandan shilling has increased by 1.2% in value, in line with the value within the 2019-2020 fiscal year, due to foreign investors and the increase in exports .

At the end of the 2019-2020 and the beginning of the 2020-2021 fiscal year, research was conducted in a bid to determine the value of a Ugandan shilling in line with a US Dollar, which is a referral currency. The Ugandan Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has declared the Ugandan shilling value has increased by 1.2%, meaning a single US Dollar is valued 3,696 shillings. This is a higher value, compared to the value of 3,714 Shillings in exchange of a single US Dollar within the first half of the previous fiscal year.

Talking to the Daily Monitor, Minister Matia has said that the increase in the value of a Ugandan Shilling was due to foreign investors, the increase in exports and the contribution of Non-Governmental Organizations working in Uganda. On the International reserves side, Minister Matia said that by December 2020, Uganda’s stock value was worth 3.848 billion shillings from the internal productions and services.

The Kenyan Shilling  is the most valued in the East African community, being valued at 103.84  and  Rwandan Francs is the second being valued at 973.8Rwf for a Dollar in the beginning of the year 2021.

A Burundian francs is the third, valued 1983.6 for a Dollar, while Tanzanian Shilling is the fourth being valued at 2298.4Tsh for a US Dollar, even if its value decreased by 0.01% in January, dropping to 2,297.99 in exchange for a single US Dollar, and  the Ugandan Shilling comes at 5th, though it has increased in value.

Kenyan shillings and Rwandan francs have dropped by 1.4% and 1.7% respectively.
