Pan-African KYC provider, Smile Identity rebrands to Smile ID
Smile Identity, a leading identity verification and digital Know Your Customer (KYC) provider in Africa, has rebranded to Smile ID. The rebrand includes a new name, logo, refreshed website, and new product updates. The simplification of the name reflects the company's goal to consolidate more services with one provider. Smile ID recently announced its Series B funding round to expand its offerings and advance its pan-African ambitions. The company has been successful in pushing its document verification product, enabling global businesses to verify user-submitted identity documents against a live selfie. It also acquired Appruve, a Ghana-based ID verification provider. With over 75 million identity verification checks completed since its launch in 2017, Smile ID aims to address the issue of millions of Africans lacking proof of legal identity, which hinders their access to digital civil and financial services. The company wants to be the go-to ID verification and onboarding provider for businesses as the KYC landscape in Africa matures. To combat fraud, Smile ID has launched Smile Secure, a tool that scans previously checked faces to detect stolen identities. The company also plans to introduce Smile Links, pre-built flows that allow users to submit their identity information, providing a convenient solution for businesses and users. The rebrand reflects the company's investment in platform improvements and its commitment to unlocking digital Africa.
