The South African Artificial Intelligence Association (SAAIA) is set to be launched on July 19, 2023, in partnership with the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). SAAIA aims to promote responsible AI adoption for the benefit of South Africa's citizens, with a focus on economic growth, trade, investment, equality, and inclusivity. The association's mission is to engage individuals and organizations, provide research and analysis to inform decision-making, assist with policy-making, connect buyers and suppliers, support SMMEs, attract foreign investment, help African tech companies access international markets, showcase AI innovation and research, facilitate debate on ethics and regulation, and share best practices and educational resources. The founding partners and advisory board members include various organizations from different domains, such as the national Department of Communication and Digital Technologies, AI Institute of South Africa, Google, and several universities and industry players. The launch of SAAIA coincides with the establishment of AI hubs and institutes in South Africa, emphasizing the need for collaboration and positive social impact through ethical AI use. Individual membership in SAAIA is free, providing access to resources, insights, and news, and offering discounts for the annual AI Expo Africa event.
