Getting into Tech: A Challenge for African Newbies
In the vast digital world, getting your first IT job can feel like climbing Mount Everest in sneakers. Consider negotiating this difficult terrain as a newcomer from Africa. The challenges grow, and the route becomes tough, riddled with uncertainties and obstructions. From restricted access to resources to dealing with misunderstandings, the path to obtaining a foothold in the computer business is riddled with hurdles that feel insurmountable at times.
I myself have encountered this and thus far I can say it is the toughest difficulty I've ever faced since I ventured into TECH. Power outage and inconsitent power supply, spending so much on data subscription are all of the reasons that hampered my productivity in IT. I remember trekking almost all day looking for a charging service station where I could pay to charge my PC or even work with my PC if the owner be gracious enough. The constant borrowing of data just so I could be able to work with my PC isn't left out too. I was nearly frustrated. The companies that are continually looking for employees with nine years of experience are not left out. Like where am I supposed to get such experience? It's really devastatiang and this can be really fustrating for a rookie.
Furthermore, a lack of exposure exacerbates the condition. African entrants are typically at a disadvantage in terms of practical experience and networking opportunities. The absence of mentorship and direction exacerbates the challenge, leaving many feeling adrift in a sea of unfamiliar jargon and thoughts.
To summarize, while the route to landing a first IT job as a newbie from Africa may be arduous, it is not impossible. By combining tenacity, endurance, and a drive to learn, aspiring tech connoisseurs can beat the odds and carve out a space for themselves in the ever-changing world of technology.
